Steve DohertyParticipant
My clutch issues continued. I took the car out a few times after the Ortega Hwy ride, and it was behaving. When I started the car up on the 13th, I could not select any gear. With the engine off, I could shift, but with the engine running, very strong resistance. I then recalled that the last time I had the car out, it did seem just slightly hard to shift as I neared home. I took a look at the clutch linkage, and the lock nut on the adjustment was loose. And, I could see fresh threads on the other side. The adjustment had moved towards the direction that the clutch was not fully disengaging. I then noticed that indeed, the peddle was moving quite a bit before feeling any resistance. I adjusted a few threads at a time, until I had just a bit of movement on the peddle before the clutch was actually starting to disengage. Now it is working well.
I’ve only had the car a few years, and initially, I had noticed the pedal would barely come back away from the footbox wall, and the car would start moving. I had asked a shop to adjust it so that the clutch would be fully disengaged farther away from the footbox wall, and it was better, but now I know how to dial it in myself, to balance between the amount of free travel when first pressing the pedal, and the point where the clutch is fully disengaged. I also put lock nuts on both sides of the rod, sandwiching the lever that goes into the bell housing.
Hope there is another Saturday club driving event soon.
Steve DohertyParticipantWill try to make the Saturday June 13th ride, although I may skip the dinner part and continue on Portrero Rd to Hueneme Rd to Hwy 1, back through Malibu to home.
